On March 18, Binance rolled out a sweeping overhaul of its VIP program. The exchange slashed BNB balance requirements and futures trading volume thresholds for VIP levels 1–3, expanded holder qualification criteria up to VIP 9, and introduced a new entry-level tier called VIP Rising Star.

Why This Matters

Binance's VIP program is a central tool for retaining high-value users on the world's largest crypto exchange. Lowering the barriers means a significantly wider pool of traders and investors can now access reduced trading fees (up to 80% spot discounts), a dedicated account manager, 24/7 priority support, higher withdrawal limits, exclusive analytics, and invitations to private events.

Reduced BNB and Futures Volume Thresholds

The minimum BNB balance for VIP 1–3 qualification has been cut dramatically, with requirements now unified across traders, holders, and borrowers:

  • VIP 1: reduced from 25 BNB to 5 BNB
  • VIP 2: reduced from 100 BNB to 25 BNB
  • VIP 3: reduced from 250 BNB to 100 BNB

BNB Simple Earn subscribers will continue to receive access to additional airdrops.

Binance also revised the 30-day futures trading volume requirements:

  • VIP 1: threshold lowered from $15 million to $5 million. However, taker/maker fees rose from 0.04%/0.016% to 0.05%/0.018%.
  • VIP 2: threshold lowered from $50 million to $10 million. Fees increased from 0.035%/0.014% to 0.04%/0.016%.
  • VIP 3: threshold lowered from $100 million to $50 million. Fees remain unchanged at 0.032%/0.012%.

Volume thresholds have been reduced by 2–5x, though VIP 1 and VIP 2 users will see slightly higher trading fees as a trade-off.

Unified Holder Criteria and VIP 5–9 Access

Binance merged qualification criteria for holders and investors into a single framework. Assets counted now include Binance Earn products: Simple Earn, ETH and SOL staking, On-Chain Yields, Soft Staking, RWUSD, Dual Investment, Discount Buy, and BFUSD.

The most notable change is that holders can now qualify for VIP levels 5 through 9 — previously capped at VIP 4.

Updated asset and BNB requirements for holders:

  • VIP 1: assets reduced from $500,000 to $100,000; BNB from 25 to 5
  • VIP 2: assets reduced from $1.5 million to $200,000; BNB from 100 to 25
  • VIP 3: assets unchanged at $3 million; BNB reduced from 250 to 100
  • VIP 4: assets unchanged at $6 million; BNB unchanged at 500
  • VIP 5–9: $50 million to $1 billion in assets, 1,000 to 5,500 BNB (previously unavailable)

For asset valuation, Binance uses the higher of two figures: the 30-day average balance or the previous day's balance. This means a user who recently deposited funds can qualify based on yesterday's snapshot, even if the 30-day average hasn't caught up yet.

VIP Rising Star

For users who don't yet meet the main VIP program's requirements, Binance has created an intermediate category — VIP Rising Star. Qualification requires a 30-day average balance of at least $30,000, including a minimum of 5 BNB. No registration is needed; the system evaluates eligibility automatically.

Rising Star members will receive personalized support, event invitations, and access to ecosystem-specific offers from Binance.

Broader Context

The VIP program revamp comes amid intensifying competition among centralized exchanges for high-net-worth users. Earlier, on March 10, Binance published a detailed breakdown of allegations involving $1.7 billion in transfers to Iranian-linked entities, presenting fund flow diagrams and responding to media claims.
